How to Make Social Media a Habit (So You Can Actually Grow Your Business)

content creation social media Feb 03, 2025

When you’re just starting out, it’s easy to get caught up in the small stuff—colors, fonts, the way your hair looks in your photos or video—and before you know it, a week has passed without a single post to Instagram.

We've all been there. But here’s a truth you need to remember: posting consistently is key to building your business. And no, it doesn’t need to be perfect.

As a new business owner, you’re probably overwhelmed with the "right" way to do things. Should you be posting daily? Should you be perfecting every detail of your visuals? While there’s no one-size-fits-all answer, the most important thing is to simply start. In the beginning, your main goal should be building the habit of creating and sharing content.

The A.C.E. Framework for a Simple Social Media Strategy:

To help you along the way and if you're just getting started, here’s how I recommend breaking down your social media strategy using an easy to follow framework:

1. Awareness: Build Your Content Muscle

Start by committing to posting regularly—whether it’s twice a week or every other day. Consistency is more important than perfection, and the more you post, the more natural it becomes.

This is your “training” phase: You’re building the habit and developing a deep understanding of the kind of content that speaks to your audience.

Don’t worry if no one sees your post in the beginning. It’s normal. You’re laying the groundwork for growth. With each post, you’ll get clearer on what your audience responds to and what feels authentic for you.

2. Consideration: Focus on Serving, Not Perfection

The next phase is about creating value and serving your audience. Don’t get distracted. Your content isn’t about chasing trends or pleasing the algorithm; it’s about serving the audience you’re meant to help.

You’ll get better at understanding what your audience needs and wants over time.

For now, keep things simple. Focus on delivering content that is highly relatable, triggers the emotions you want you ideal audience to feel, and highlights who you are, your story, values and mission. The more you share, the clearer your voice becomes, and the easier it gets to keep showing up.

And as you’re doing that, ask yourself:

👉 What do people need to know about me and the product or services I provide to make an informed decision about working with me (or buying from me)?

Don’t be afraid to sell, even if you have a small audience a clear call to action can turn just one viewer into your next client.

3. Loyalty: Building Trust and Authority

Once you’ve established a consistent posting routine, it’s time to focus on building loyalty and rounding out your content strategy.

Be honest with your audience, share your wins, your challenges, and your journey. This transparency is what builds trust and makes people feel connected to your brand.

You don’t need to have everything figured out. In fact, sharing your learning process will resonate more with your audience. Trust builds over time, and as you continue posting, you’ll get closer to identifying exactly what your audience needs.

Perfection can wait—start posting! Early on, it’s less about the “how” and more about the “doing.” When you get into the rhythm of posting, you’ll not only sharpen your content skills, but you’ll also begin attracting the right audience.

Remember, you’re building a muscle, and muscles get stronger with practice.

And eventually, you’ll have the clarity and confidence to hire someone else (like a social media manager) to take the reins and help you develop a strong social media strategy that scales things quickly.
